rapzilla2.jpg Rapzilla brought together the best in Christian hip hop to help spread the love of Christ in the Congo, Africa.

Putting action behind their music, Rapzilla has rounded up the best in Christian hip-hop for the first time, but not just for music, for Africa. This collaboration’s goal is to bring the “King’s Kulture” to African students in the Congo.

Rapzilla, a Christian hip-hop label and website, presents an album of collaborated artists called King Kulture. This album features many Christian artists, including LeCrae, PRo, Braille and Young Joshua.

With the album just released on January 31, Rapzilla co-owner Chad Horton shares the purpose of the album, the meaning of the title, and how this album reaches out to the community with his Christian music fans.

BC: We all know that King Kulture is the title of the album, but what is the deeper meaning?

Horton: The Rapzilla staff and I didn’t want to alienate from the culture of Jesus Christ. His life, His word, and His fellowship are what drives us to represent Him and this is why we love working in Christian hip-hop. The words King Kulture stand for the culture and fellowship of Jesus Christ.

BC: How long did it take to complete the album?

Horton: Working on this album was a 2-year project because of the large collaboration of Christian artists. It also took longer because Rapzilla’s not a full-time paying job. A lot of our staff [have] other full-time jobs.

BC: With this album bringing so many artists together, what implications or affects do you think this album could have on the Christian hip-hop community?

Horton: I believe this album will have a huge and positive impact on the Christian hip-hop community. The first reason why this impact is huge is because Rapzilla is not only the biggest platform for Christian hip-hop, but also we receive a lot of exposure in the press. It is because of this popularity and exposure that Rapzilla provides many opportunities for Christian artists to show their talents. This is also a positive impact because it is noticeable that the artist’s work together and communicate more and provide a good representation of the quality of work that Christian workers have with each other.

BC: What is the reason for reaching out to Africa?

Horton: Rapzilla’s co-owner, founder and President Phillip Rood is a missionary worker in Africa. It’s personal for him. Before his grandfather passed away recently, he also did missionary work in Africa and lived there as well. This album is not only Christian hip-hop music, but also a mission to raise funds for schools in Africa; chairs, books, tables, desks, etc…

BC: What song reaches out to you the most?

Horton: The first track released was probably the one that reached out to me the most. It was a song on the album that included artists Braille and Odd Thomas (Beautiful Eulogy). The chorus alone reached out to me the most when it says, “He’s The King of All Creation.” It’s a song about our God and how great He is.

BC: What was your main goal in the creation of this album?

Horton: My goal is simply to help people receive the gospel and financial help.

BC: With the album being a source of charity, what else can we expect from Rapzilla in the future?

Horton: This isn’t the end of our reach. We work on albums that raise funds for the help of other causes every year. There’s no certainty on what cause we will decide to help in the future. However, one of the many causes that we’re considering is the cause of Child Trafficking.
