Known for his praise and worship hits like “No Weapon”, “Blessed”, and “They That Wait” among a long list, on his knew album God, Love and Romance, the beloved gospel crooner Fred Hammond shows a different side of himself.

As you can infer from the title, this album includes more than tear-jerking worship songs, what we’ve come to love from Fred Hammond’s music, but just in time for Valentine’s Day, this worshiper has decided to open the dialogue about romance.

Based on his conviction of romantic relationships not being spoken of enough by the church and emphasizing that he’s “still a worshiper,” he wants to open up this subject that he feels is often treated taboo.

“Its amazing to me because one of the things I’ve scratched my head over, the last several years of my life, maybe 10, 15, 20 years is why do we go ‘Psalms,’ ‘Proverbs,’ skip over, and go to ‘Ecclesiastes.’”

“Why do we skip the ‘Songs of Solomon?’ Nobody ever preaches from that,” Hammond said in an interview with WHMG TV.

Talking from a “love perspective not a lust perspective” Hammond explores romance from the view point of a godly man, including good times and bad, and how to handle these things.

Speaking about the beauty of marriage in its spring bloom, he expresses this joyous time in songs like “When I Come Home To You,” “I’m In Love With You” and “You Are My Love Come True.”

Seeing the rate of divorces in the church, in a recent listening party for his new album, Hammond informed his audience that 50% of all first time marriages in the church end in divorce, himself being a product of this statistic.

With this album he wanted his address of romance to come from an authentic place and help to decrease this statistic.

“Let me say what I feel and maybe it will give a couple a chance to heal” Hammond told WHMG.

The album being in the form of unfolding stories, in it you’ll find the struggle and rebound of a married couple. In “I Got A Good Woman” the song opens with the story of a man asking advice from his friend about how he makes his marriage work.

The adviser admits that he has a good woman but there have been struggles, to the extent of almost loosing his marriage, but what strengthened him was when he came home, unknowingly to his wife, and he heard her praying for him.

The album also calls out to married couples who are having trouble to not give up on their marriage in songs like “One More Try.”

These songs will definitely bring healing to any hurting marriage if their principals are put in action.

Hammond doesn’t just limit his healing work to married couples but also to those who are single and dealing with the pain of a break-up and feeling alone.

In songs like “I Am Not Alone” and “Better Love” he reassures the hurting of God’s perfect love that exceeds all others.

This 34 track album has something for everybody. And just in case you thought he missed a beat, there are many praise and worship songs that will keep you on your face and your feet stomping including the remix of his beloved song “He Lives,” given a rock flare this time around.

Fred Hammond’s God, Love and Romance is now available and is just in time for Valentine’s Day!
